About USG

Who They Are

The Undergraduate Student Government at Ohio State consists of elected and appointed student representatives who serve as liaisons from the undergraduate student body to university officials. There are three distinct, separate branches of government that embody USG - an Executive Branch, a Legislative Branch and a Judicial Branch.

The President and Vice President, the only two officials who are elected by the entire student body, deal with university policies and act as the primary spokespeople for undergraduate students. They also appoint a cabinet, led by the Chief of Staff. The size of cabinet changes with each administration but its primary function is to assist with policies and work on projects.

The legislative branch is made up of a twenty-five person Senate, with one representative from each living area and one from each college. Senators are expected to frequently discuss issues with their constituents as well as work on individual projects and serve on University Senate Committees.

Finally, the Judicial Branch consists of twelve members who make up the University Judicial Panel, and who deal with nonacademic wrongdoing committed by students.

Aside from these three branches, there are also three independent officers in USG - a treasurer, a web master and an Elections Governance Board Director, who oversees the elections.
